Highway Department

The Highway Department is responsible for the almost 70 miles of roads in the Town of Ashfield.  They are responsible for the control of snow and ice on Town roads ensuring that they are safe travel on.  The department uses town employees, equipment and/or private contractors to provide this service.


The Highway Department works in concert with the Select Board and the Town Administrator to seek Federal and State revenues that will complement the use of local funds that are necessary to provide an improved roadway system and perform necessary maintenance and repairs. 

The Department oversees the operations and the running of the Transfer Station and Recycling Center.

  • All Night Parking Ban:  As of December 1, 2017 it is unlawful to park vehicles on any street for a period of time longer than one hour between the hours of 11:00 PM and 8:00 AM.  Any vehicle parked illegally under the section III of the Traffic Rules and Orders of the Town of Ashfield shall be towed and the owners of said vehicle shall be responsible for such towing charges.  For information on this order refer to "All Night Parking Ban (Release 12/1/2017)".
